Rocking Horse Records 40th Anniversary Party

Rocking Horse Records 40th Anniversary Party

Join the party to celebrate the 40th Birthday of Rocking Horse Records – Brisbane’s premier independent music retailer, with a huge concert event and party on Sunday November 1. Store owner, Warwick Vere, first opened the doors to Rocking Horse Records as an ‘import record shop’ in Rowes Arcade in 1975. The shop was then on Adelaide Street for 25 years, survived through the National Party/Joh Bjelke-Petersen years and won ‘obscenity’ trials. It gradually outgrew these digs and settled into its current location on the Mall in Albert Street.

Countless artists and musicians have done a stint being employed behind the counters over the last 40 years and many more independent bands have sold their music through the store. A multi-ARIA-award-winner (Best Record Store 2005-2009, 2011 / Outstanding Physical Retail 2014), Rocking Horse has become a much-loved and enduring focal point for the Brisbane music scene.

Coming together to celebrate this milestone are:

  • Last Dinosaurs
  • The Cairos
  • ISIS (90s queer folksters)
  • Rob Hirst & Sean Sennett (of Midnight Oil and Crush 76 respectively)
  • Ron S Peno & Brett Myers (Died Pretty)
  • Blank Realm and more to be announced…

The party is free entry from 12:00 pm at the beer garden, which will feature acoustic sets from Kristy Apps and The Shotgun Shirleys and The Floyd Family Breakdown. The doors for the ticketed main event open from 5:30 pm. See online for more information.
