Restrung Festival

Running from October 14–16, Metro Art’s Restrung Festival boasts a three-day program that will entertain and delight even the most hard-to-please treble makers. The line-up features celebrated and emerging talent and is packed with bespoke events, unique collaborations and bold new works. It all kicks off with a performance from Topology on Thursday October 14, where the outfit will treat event-goers to their other-worldly mixture of piano, strings and sax before a slow-moving meditation in sound takes over the precinct for Hope’s Beautiful Symphony. On Friday October 15, renowned Brisbane ensemble Bentley String Quintet teams up with GANGgajang’s Robbie James to premiere his new work, Dreaming In The Sand, and Dots+Loops directors Kieran Welch, Connor D’Netto and Flora Wong share some of their favourite contemporary works for strings and electronics.

The note-worthy happenings continue on Saturday October 16 when Brisbane’s legendary David Bentley Trio takes the stage, joined by virtuoso violinist Shenzo Gregorio and cellist Danielle Bentley, whilst a special double-bill performance by electronic adventurers Tess King and Voltfruit will take the festivities to a whole new level. The dust will settle with a closing-night party with Estampa, which will combine a unique blend of violin, voice, piano accordion, guitar, banjo and double bass. In addition to genre-bending performances, tune chasers can immerse themselves in vibrant art installations created by Pat Hoffie, Leah Barclay and workshops that are sure to ignite imagination.
