Coming to Queensland Theatre from Wednesday July 14 to Saturday August 7, Prima Facie is the handiwork of human rights lawyer-turned-playwright Suzie Miller. The award-winning play, which has already taken Sydney by storm, takes aim at Australia’s legal system and calls on the need to for it to improve on its treatment of sexual assault survivors.
The one-woman show stars acclaimed actress Sheridan Harbridge (Stop Girl, Muriel’s Wedding the Musical, Songs for the Fallen), who takes on the role of Tessa, a successful criminal defence lawyer who finds herself on the other side of the bar when a date becomes an assault. Tessa has to know decide if she wants to risk her career or stay silent in a patriarchal justice system where it’s her word against his – a sad reality faced by women every day.
