Portrait of an Artist: Gordon Shepherdson retrospective

The third in our Portrait of an Artist series for 2019 we pay tribute to the late Gordon Shepherdson – one of Queensland’s most celebrated expressionist painters – at a special event at State Library of Queensland.

Gordon was regarded as the artist’s artist and is best known for his dark figurative paintings that have transfixed art lovers for the past 50 years.

Watch a screening of an interview with Gordon conducted by David Burnett in 2012, filmed for the James C Sourris AM Collection of contemporary Australian artist interviews, part of the Australian Library of Art at State Library.

Following the screening, arts writer Louise Martin-Chew, art dealer Bruce Heiser and Gordon’s son Nathan Shepherdson will speak about Gordon’s enduring work and legacy.

The Portrait of an Artist series is made possible thanks to the generosity of James C Sourris AM through the Queensland Library Foundation.
