Discover the beauty in greater Brisbane’s backyard at the Peaks to Points Festival 2018.

Experience amazing natural areas on your doorstep through free events and hands-on activities from Flinders Peak near Ipswich across the south side of the Brisbane River, to Moreton Bay. The festival brings together community and groups, businesses and government to celebrate greater Brisbane’s ‘wild side’. Through bush walks, canoeing, birdwatching, tree plantings, workshops, bus tours and lots of other great eco-activities you can learn more about our wonderful natural environment, and how we can protect and enhance it.

Key Events:

Tour of Ipswich’s Tributaries, Conservation Estates and Green Assets – Saturday 21 July, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Riverheart Parklands, Meet at 20 Bremer Street Ipswich.
Come and join the Bremer River Network and Ipswich City Council on a tour of waterways and green assets within Ipswich. You will have the pleasure of viewing waterway rehabilitation areas including a bioretention basin, constructed wetland and the famous Small Creek rehabilitation project, which are exemplars of waterway improvement projects in the Ipswich City Council Region. The tour will also visit White Rock Spring Mountain Conservation Estate, which has some of the highest natural and conservation values in the region

A guided walk with Native Plants Queensland, through the beautiful eucalypt forest and surrounds.

Bushcare Blitz at Spring Mountain – Saturday 28 July, 8:00–11:00 am.
Spring Mountain Reserve, Greenbank via Tully Connection Road, Greenbank.
Join OCCA to plant some trees and help restore Spring Mountain Reserve. Bounded by Oxley Creek and an amazing wetland this site is a great place to sight kangaroos and other native wildlife. The event will include a presentation of native fauna by Geckoes Wildlife so bring the family! This event is proudly supported by Logan City Council

Bird watching at Hardings Paddock – Thursday 26 July, 6:00–8:00  pm.
Hardings Paddock Reserve, Carmichael’s Road, Purga.
Walk the Gamlen Circuit, a moderate 3.5km trail. We expect many bush birds including various honeyeaters, lorikeets, robins and Grey-crowned Babblers, and hope to record about 50 bird species. We finish with morning tea at the picnic ground.

Go bird watching at Rosewood – Saturday 28 July, 7:00–9:30 am.
Armstrong Park, Rosewood – Amberley Road, Rosewood. Meet at the carpark (directly opposite McGearys Road).
Join bird watchers and knowledgeable plantsman on this guided walk in the Ipswich region. All bird sightings and plants found are recorded. Morning Tea supplied at conclusion of the event. Cost is $5 or $10 per family to cover insurance costs.

Shapcott Park National Tree Day planting – Sunday 29 July, 9:00–11:00 am.
116-118 Gladstone Road, Coalfalls. Meet at the Rotunda near the playground.
Nestled along the Bremer River, this planting will improve water quality and bank stabilisation and provide habitat for our wildlife. This area will also connect with other revegetated areas along the river to create more connected corridors and improved environmental outcomes.
