Parks Alive 2018

Roma Street Parklands will be buzzing with flora and fun on August 4–5 for the much-loved Parks Alive 2018! Set over two glorious days, the fantastic free event is designed to showcase the stunning splendour of the area and is jam-packed with engaging and unique displays, family-friendly activities, guided Parkland tours, demonstrations by experts, horticulture workshops, live music, gourmet food and even a daily yoga session.

If you’re into all things plant-based, the Apothecary Botanica demonstration with horticulturist, author and eco-educator Linda Brennan is right up your alley and if you’re fond of pickles and preserves, Fermentation Nation is for you. Passionate landscape architect and host of ABC’s Gardening Australia Costa Georgiadis will challenge you to rethink waste, learn all about urban beekeeping with Bee One Third and Jerry Coleby-Williams will offer tips for successful footpath gardening.

Foodies, you’ll be well and truly spoilt for choice with a mouthwatering array of tasty, sustainable, gourmet and botanical bites from Hierba Santa Organic, The Curious Caravan, Fuel by Meat, Salt, Cheese, MooFree Burgers, Happy Soul Bowl, Nude Juice and Dolce Ice Creamery, to name a few. The Festival’s Plant Clinic will be the go-to destination for green thumbs with the Parklands horticultural team on hand to answer gardening questions and offer advice. Tip, bring your used coffee cup to have it recycled or trade it for a free seedling. Tiny cultivators will love the range of design-focused activities on offer including kite making, drawing and other specialist art classes.

Parks Alive is a must-do event for anyone interested in sustainability, nature, gardening and design. Take a peek at the entire weekend of events here. Not sure where to go? Navigate Parks Alive using the event map and downloadable program.

Don’t forget to do your bit for the environment and contribute to the festival’s no-waste policy by bringing your own reusable water bottles and coffee cups! There will be a water bubbler provided to refill your water bottle at the event.
