Oriana Choir and Brisbane Symphony Orchestra: Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’

The Sunshine Coast’s own Oriana Choir is proud to bring you Mendelssohn’s magnificent Oratorio ‘Elijah’, in collaboration with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, renowned Musical Director and conductor Jonathan Grieves-Smith, and soloists Daniel Smerdon, Elisabeth Wallis Gaedtke, Anne Fulton, and Phillip Prendergast.

Mendelssohn’s choral and orchestral masterwork depicts events in the life of the Biblical prophet, Elijah. The oratorio was premiered in 1846, and has come to hold its place with the greatest choral works still being performed the world over. Mendelssohn was inspired by his baroque heroes Handel and Bach, but the music is all Mendelssohn, and reflects his genius as a Romantic composer.

Don’t let the upcoming opportunity to hear this wonderful musical creation pass you by. Whether one is a believer or not, the power and drama of the story, combined with Mendelssohn’s beautiful music, promise you an uplifting, exciting, inspirational experience.
