Mystical Tibet Concert with Special Guest Ama Jetsun Pema
The Festival of Tibet is thrilled to be welcoming back Jetsun Pema la, sister of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and UNESCO medal winning educational reformer and activist as part of Mystical Tibet alongside Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.
Affectionately known by Tibetans as ‘Ama la’ (respected mother), Jetsun Pela la has had 42 years as director of the Tibetan Children’s Village schools (established in India to care for and educate for Tibetan refugee children). She was elected the first Minister for Women in the Tibetan Government in Exile. Joining Ama la on stage in conversation is the marvelous Meshel Laurie, author of several books including her latest release, Buddhism for the Unbelievably Busy.
Ending Ama la’s talk will be the awe-inspiring collaboration that is Mystical Tibet. The award winning Camerata–Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra and renowned Tibetan singer-songwriter Tenzin Choegyal have been collaborating for over a decade and perform sublime interpretations of Tenzin’s original compositions. “It’s a completely new genre of music, what we might call Tibetan Folk Chamber Music. And as far as we can tell Tenzin is the first Tibetan musician to write and perform with a Western classical group.” ABC RN
