Celebrating Clara is the Muses Trio celebration of Clara Schumann’s 200th anniversary of birth and CD launch with a performance of spoken word, diary extracts and her personal piano trio fragmented and reconstructed with music by female composers inspired by her legacy: pianist, virtuoso, composer, wife to a very unstable genius, mother to eight.

This is a unique opportunity to hear a performance in Wolston House, a nineteenth-century residential farmhouse and part of the National Trust of Australia, constructed during Clara Schumann’s lifetime. Although on the other side of the world, Wolston House gives a taste of the domestic setting with which Clara and her famly lived; coicindentally Wolston House has been home to two families with a large number of children. By choosing this setting, we offer a sense of the struggle between the artistic and domestic life Clara Schumann constantly juggled throughout her life.

The program is as follows: Wolston House opens at 10:00 am. Guests may choose to join a complimentary guided tour from 10:15–10:45 am, or to explore the grounds and farmhouse themselves. The Muses perform from approximately 11:00 am to 12:15 pm. Guests can choose to stay, mingle with the artists and friends, and enjoy the catering by Boheme Events payable via cash or EFTPOS on the day. Please note no BYO food or alcohol. Alongside Clara’s acclaimed trio, the Muses will perform Kate Moore (AUS): Whoever you are, come forth (solo cello) and Dies Irae (violin, piano), Rebecca Clarke (UK): Lullaby (violin and cello), Nicole Murphy (AUS) : Surface 2 (violin, cello, piano), Jennifer Higdon (USA): Nocturne from String Poetic (violin, piano), and Lera Auerbach (USA): Postlude from Tryptich, the Mirror with Three Faces (violin, cello, piano).

Parking is free on site, and admission to Wolston House and also the guided tour is included in the ticket price.
