Multicultural Australia’s LUMINOUS Festival

What started as a candlelight march in support of refugees and asylum seekers in 2007 has grown to become Queensland’s largest welcoming event at South Bank.

For those of you who have walked with us on our journey to create welcome and belonging for a significant time, you would be familiar with our LUMINOUS Lantern Parade, usually celebrated around Queensland Day, and our MOSAIC Multicultural Festival, a staple on Brisbane’s event calendar in spring.

This year, LUMINOUS and MOSAIC return to create the largest multicultural event in Queensland’s history. Hosted on Saturday August 3 at South Bank Parklands, LUMINOUS Festival will kick off Queensland Multicultural Month with a showcase of our growing cultural diversity at Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct.

LUMINOUS celebrates the cultural diversity of our local community with food and performances from around the world, volunteering for the event day or the lantern making workshops in the lead up to LUMINOUS helps to spread a message of welcome to new members of our community.
