Minefields and Miniskirts

Minefields and Miniskirts

Minefields and Miniskirts is a series of funny, fascinating, sad and poignant stories of Australian women who lived in Vietnam during the war. These women are now ‘all grown up’ and have important stories to tell, in many cases, for the very first time.

Based on the book by Siobhan McHugh, Minefields and Miniskirts relays “stories collected from interviewing 50 women from all sides of the war – those who had been in the war zone, as entertainers, nurses, journalists, volunteers and consular/secretarial staff, those whose husbands or sons were military combatants, and those who joined the anti-war movement at home, a group that sometimes overlapped with the emerging women’s liberation movement”.

Performed as a series of monologues, these stories are full of surprises. The pain of war is here but there are also episodes of practical reality, wartime socialising, humour and great courage.

Don’t miss out on this tell tale version of the real Australian war experience at Brisbane Arts Theatre.
