MELT Portrait Prize


Now in its third year, the MELT Portrait Prize is an opportunity for visual artists across the globe to celebrate their heroes in the LGBTI+ Community.

The 2018 MELT Portrait Prize shortlisted artists are (in alphabetical order):
Zack Ahmed, Nick Bleeker, Jacq Cronin, Amelia Dowd, Annelise Forster, Snehargho Ghosh, April Giblin, Christopher R. Inwood, Margaux Kendall, Alee Lee, Joy McDonald, Navin Regi, Leonie Rhodes, Mark Salta, Michael Simms, Mikarla Teague, Louan Walker, Charlotte Watson and Timothy Woods.

The artworks each depict a portrait of a member of the global LGBTI+ community.

Judging the 2018 exhibition will be Senior Lecturer and Program Director of the Bachelor of Photography at Queensland College of Art Griffith University, Dr Heather Faulkner, Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, Hon Coralee O’Rourke, and creator of the blog Cultural Flanerie, Carrie McCarthy.

With a record number submissions, 19 artists were shortlisted to have their artwork on display as part of the MELT Portrait Prize exhibition and will be in the running to win the Judges Choice Award of $1000 cash, an accommodation package with The Johnson Art Series Hotel, and have their work displayed at The Johnson. All works are also eligible for the People’s Choice Award, with voting via Facebook between 14-28 May. VOTE HERE.

MELT Portrait Prize Judges Choice Award will be announced on Thursday 17 May, with a People’s Choice Award being judged via Facebook and announced Monday 28 May.
