Lunar New Year Rooftop Party

Held in partnership with Brisbane City Council’s BrisAsia Festival, the all-new Lunar New Year Rooftop Party is set to be the highlight of Brisbane’s Lunar New year calendar, welcoming the 2018 Year of the Dog and offering an exciting cultural experience for the whole family to enjoy.

From 4pm onwards, the entire Sunnybank cinema rooftop carpark will be transformed into a celebration reminiscent of a traditional lantern festival just like the ones held in Asia each year, complete with delicious food and drink, live music, entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display.

The rooftop party will also feature an art gallery, tea house, beauty salon, games den and workshops on calligraphy, along with lantern making and percussion workshops for the kids.

Pop Asia’s Andy Trieu will present a program of live entertainment on stage throughout the evening, including traditional lion and dragon dance performances, as well as an exclusive performance by popular Brisbane Kpop group, P4pero, who will be joining the rooftop celebrations!

There will also be a delicious Chinese New Year takeaway menu on offer, courtesy of Sunnybank’s most popular restaurants including Rolling Man, Huang Taiji and Undonya Tokoton to name a few. Party goers will be able to bring their takeaway goodies (think fluffy steam buns, mouthwatering dumplings, pork noodles and more) up to the rooftop dining zone to enjoy them in the exciting festival atmosphere.

The fun will continue as the sun goes down, with a lantern parade for the kids, plus a screening of the popular Studio Ghibli film, ‘Princess Kaguya’, presented in partnership with the Asia Pacific Film Festival.
