Looking for Lawson

Looking for Lawson

Described by Barry Humphries as ‘Miraculous!’, Looking for Lawson is an exciting contemporary take on the works of classic Australian poet, Henry Lawson.

Henry’s most evocative poems come to life in new musical settings by composer and musical director John Thorn (Spontaneous Broadway, Background Boy), with echoes of Jacques Brel, Astor Piazzola, and Joni Mitchell, and a dash of Irish Folk charm. Starring ‘show-stopping’ vocalist and actor Taryn Ryan (Once We Lived Here) with Thorn on piano and vocals, Looking for Lawson comes to Queensland for a strictly limited season after critically acclaimed runs at Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and Fringe World Festival, Perth.

“The greatest thing to happen to Lawson since his state funeral” – Terry Maher “Lawson’s poems, beautifully set to music by John Thorn with the crystal clarity of Taryn Ryan’s voice, embark on a journey that shows his love of Australia, especially its glorious bush (Reedy River), his empathy with the poor (Faces in the Street), his admiration for the daring free-spirits in the anarchic (Taking his Chance).”
