Live At The Lodge #8

The 8th instalment of Valley Heat Records’ Live At The Lodge series features the gentle dance floor beckonings of Kieran T. Stevenson and his 80s synth-driven delights alongside Jo Davie’s sonic weavings of storybook folk with the slightest teasings of vocal jazz and Eli’s matured acoustic offerings.

Taking stock of his musical loves a few years ago, Brisbane vocalist and songwriter Kieran T. Stevenson, let a mix of old and new favourites rise to the surface, ultimately finding solace in the hearty snares and synth foundations of 80s pop gems.
Taking influence from artists such as Kate Miller-Heidke, Haim, Ben Folds, Joni Mitchell and Bleachers, as well as the bounty of 80s favourites such as David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, and Kate Bush, Kieran began writing new material and recording with Cody McWaters, whilst simultaneously spending 2014-2016 knuckling down on the remainder of his studies in jazz voice at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Graduating mid 2016, Kieran’s debut EP ‘Go’ was released soon after, alongside shows in Brisbane and Melbourne in support of the EP.

Brisbane-based vocalist, Jo Davie explores the boundaries of her instrument, channelling jazz training into her original folk music with impressive versatility. Last year, she was a prize-winner in Brisbane’s ‘QUBE Effect’ Competition, and early this year she was invited to spend two days recording in Melbourne with renowned producer, Anna Laverty, through the Audrey Recording Initiative. Jo is currently fresh from showcasing down in Canberra at the National Folk Festival, where she was awarded runner-up in the Folk Alliance Australia Young Artist of the Year award. As lead vocalist of the gypsy band ‘Cigány Weaver’, she has performed at Woodford Folk Festival, Wallaby Creek Festival (FNQ) and OzManouche to great acclaim. Jo sings her own delicately crafted songs with heartfelt simplicity, technical skill and rare intimacy.

Eli performs his own brand of acoustic folk with a matured warm tone, creating a sincere and empathic experience. Inspired by the likes of Ben Howard, Vance Joy and Bon Iver, Eli seeks to develop his original performance to bring a unique live experience to audiences near and far. 2016 saw Eli expanding his original repertoire with the release of his debut release “Hold You In,” a song arranged and produced with the help of friend and mentor Ryan Nebauer, front man of Brisbane act “Neighbour.” Eli spent 2017 honing his live performance and finishing his debut EP “Masonry,” which launched in late Feb 2018.
