Lea DeLaria

Lea DeLaria

Lea DeLaria, ‘Big Boo’ from Orange is the New Black, will bring her new live show to Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Concert Hall for one night only on Tuesday June 5.

Known for her frank politics and big personality, DeLaria is not one to shy away from comedy that will bite hard and elicit gales of laughter. Her show features hits from her critically acclaimed album House of David: delaria+bowie=jazz and shows off DeLaria’s comic genius and spectacular vocal range in songs such as FameYoung Americans and Let’s Dance.

DeLaria achieved overnight stardom with her three-time Screen Actors Guild Award®-winning role as Carrie ‘Big Boo’ Black in the Netflix hit series Orange is the New Black. However, DeLaria’s multi-faceted career as a comedian, actress, and jazz musician has spanned decades.

The much-loved and outspoken actress, comedian, singer and gay icon has received Obie and Theatre World Awards and a Drama Desk nomination for her portrayal as Hildy in The Public Theatre’s revival of On the Town, an Ovation Award nomination for The Boys from Syracuse, and has played both Eddie and Doctor Scott in the Tony Award® nominated Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show.

DeLaria holds the distinction of being the first openly gay comic on a late-night talk show in America which led to countless television and film roles. Selected television roles include: Awkward, Clarence, Californication, The Oblongs, One Live to Live, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Will and Grace, Friends and Matlock. Selected film credits include: First Wives Club, Dear Dumb Diary and Edge of Seventeen.

DeLaria was the featured vocalist at the 50th Anniversary of Newport Jazz Festival and has performed in some of the most prestigious houses in the world including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House.

With a velvet-smooth voice contrasting perfectly with razor-sharp wit and sassy stage presence, this will be a spectacular performance.
