An enjoyable and whimsical Indo-jazz session featuring Australian jazz guitarist Toby Wren, multi-percussionist Tunji Beier, Nepalese-Australian tabla maestro Dheeraj Shrestha, and renowned saxophonist Rafael Karlen.

The compositions in this concert represent a halfway point between jazz standard and Carnatic pallavi theme (or Hindustani Gat). That is, they are short pieces designed as a stepping off point for improvisations that allow musicians from different backgrounds to feel equally comfortable approaching the materials. Even a listener with no knowledge of either style will still be able to appreciate the mix of driving and intricate rhythms and ornamented melodies from Indian classical music combined with the rich harmonies and more angular melodies of jazz as well as appreciate the beautiful instrumental colours of saxophone, guitar, mridangam and tabla.
