Japanese Film Festival

Grab the popcorn – Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is back! Presented by The Japan Foundation in Sydney, the JFF started in 1997 with three free film screenings and is now one of the largest celebrations of Japanese films in the world.

In celebration of Japanese Film Festival’s 25th year, the JFF team are thrilled to return to cinemas and share the very best in Japanese cinema with Brisbane audiences. From November 11 to 27, JFF will be playing cinematic gems at Palace Barracks Cinemas and QAGOMA. History buffs will love this years festival opener – historical drama Dreaming of the Meridian Arc and drama lovers will get their fix with Intolerance – the intricate portrayal of the behaviour and psychology behind people caught in extreme situations. Explore family lies and secrets with And So The Baton Is Passed, examine the inner lives of boxers with Blue or delve into the murder mystery world with In the Wake.

There is something for everyone at this years JFF from anime and thrillers about serial killers to a mouth-watering foodie documentary. The festival has enjoyed great success over the years, with the opportunity to showcase a vast variety of cinematic delights from 35-mm film prints to newly released titles currently screening in Japan.
