In Depth

In Depth

Award-winning glass artist Joanne Bone is showing her new series of marine-life inspired sculptures at Juggler’s Art Space this June. The exhibition, In Depth, will also contain photographs by Aaron Micallef, depicting Bone’s art and process.

One of Australia’s most innovative glass workers, Bone is the only Queensland artist to have won the Ranamok Glass Prize. She plans to begin a national tour later this year. The upcoming display exhibits an array of delicately crafted sculptures, with common decorative patterns threading throughout the series.

Aaron Micallef’s photography works in dialogue with the sculptures. Not merely a record of Bone’s art, Micallef captures the focus of Bone’s practice and the mystic stillness her final objects exude. Bone looks to marine wildlife for her inspiration, and Micallef to Bone herself. The exhibition rests on this mirroring and interplay.

In Depth leaves viewers to reconcile to two media: thinking upon not simply the object in front of them but the means of its creation. The exhibition will be open for viewing from the June 12 to 17 of June as per normal gallery hours but will open officially on June 12 at 6:00 pm.
