Head of the Brisbane Rowing Regatta

Head of the Brisbane Rowing Regatta

The Toowong Rowing Club (TRC) is hosting the annual Head of the Brisbane regatta. The 9.6 km rowing event will start and end at the TRC pontoon, with an exciting mid-race hairpin turn at speed.  520 competitors of all ages will compete in boats sized from singles to eights. The first race starts at 7:45 am with boats leaving at 30-second intervals.

Rowers may live in a community, but it’s every boat for itself as crews vie for line honours. Emotions run high – the finish line is where the end of race refreshments lie.

Spectators are encouraged and can compete with tired rowers for food, drinks from the bar and the ever-essential coffee. Once fed, the athletes are much more social, and contribute to the great atmosphere. Brisbane group, the Jazzy Chats Big Band, will be there adding a touch of class. The iconic Regatta Hotel will cater and coffee will be provided by local Brisbane mob, Rich Pour.

Other vantage points include: the Eleanor Schonell Bridge (great for seeing crews get tangled in swirling water), the foreshore along the Brisbane Corso and Paringa Place Park (fantastic to watch crews navigate the hairpin turn).

Whether you’re interested in rowing, meeting new people, wearing unisuits, or just enjoy watching red-faced athletes pushed to exhaustion – come and join us for a great event!
