Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde

In conjunction with The Importance of Being Earnest, Singapore’s W!LD RICE proudly presents a staged reading of Moisés Kaufman’s 1997 play Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde.

On Valentine’s Day in 1895, playwright and novelist Oscar Wilde was celebrated as the darling of society after The Importance of Being Earnest opened to great critical acclaim in London’s West End. But Wilde’s moment of glory didn’t last long. By May of the same year, England’s great man of letters had been subjected to a series of scandalous trials that would ultimately bring him to his knees.
