Glorious!
In 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins was the singer everyone wanted to see perform live. The socialite and amateur soprano was infamous for her flamboyant costumes and elaborate performances. There was just one problem. She couldn’t sing a note.
Never one to let a little thing like zero singing ability to get her down, happy-go-lucky Florence warbled on pursuing her dreams. Despite – or, perhaps, because of – her delusions, she became a cult figure among celebrities and the city’s elite for her unceasing optimism and endearing personality.
Peter Quilter’s West End smash hit Glorious! brings Florence’s story to the stage in a new Australian production starring Diana McLean in the title role, with Mitchell Roberts (Cosme McMoon) and Felicity Soper (Dorothy), and directed by Denny Lawrence.
Based on a true story which inspired the 2016 movie starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, this heartwarming comedy spins from Florence’s charity recitals and extravagant balls, through to her bizarre recording sessions and an ultimate triumph at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
