Girls Rock! Brisbane

Girls Rock! Australia and Backbone Youth Arts are proud to present the second-ever Girls Rock! event in Brisbane to be held from Monday September 24 to Friday 28 September 2018 at Backbone Youth Arts, East Brisbane.

Empowering girls, trans and gender non-conforming youth aged 10-17 through a week-long mentorship program, Girls Rock! Brisbane (GR!BNE) encourages creativity, self-expression and teamwork through music.

Some of Australia’s finest female musicians mentor the girls and offer a curriculum that is a broad introduction to the world of music.

In the space of five days, participants form their own band, learn an instrument, watch live music performances, take part in creative workshops and write an original song that they perform at an end of week showcase.

The showcase will take place on Saturday 29 September, and all are welcome to attend.

GR!BNE provides a safe environment for girls to express their creativity; the school holiday day camp helps them to take pride in their accomplishments and learn not to apologise for making some noise.

A number of musical mentors have already been confirmed, including Tamara Bell (HITS), Jodie Lawlor (Flangipanis), Innez Tulloch (Thigh Master), Zoe Wilson (WHALEHOUSE), Alana Manix (AirJordans), Skye Staniford (Slumlawwd, WE ALL WANT TO), Martine Cotton (Music Industry Inside Out), and Ash Kerley (Marville).

During GR!BNE the girls will be treated to live music performances from Flangipanis, Hanny J of Clowns, and The Show Ponies, among others.
