Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images will be the first substantial Australian exhibition of works by the German artist widely recognised as one of the world’s most influential living painters. With works from across six decades of Richter’s painting practice, it will include some of the most compelling and enigmatic pictures of the 20th and 21st centuries and show how the artist established an unparalleled influence on contemporary art. Richter’s great diversity of practice is seen in the contrast between his monumental abstracts and figurative photo-paintings of Romantic landscapes, images from the media and intimate glimpses of his family.
