Garage Sale Trail
The Garage Sale Trail definitely isn’t your average yard sale! It’s a national day of garage sales all around the country involving music, food and the best of creativity – and has seen everything from beachfront apartments to alpacas to jetpacks, and even a helicopter for sale this year. There is a projected 15,000 sales happening all around the country on October 22, when the Trail kicks off.
Last year saw over 350,000 people get amongst the treasure hunting, saving stuff from a landfill fate with nearly 3 million trash-to-treasure items listed for sale, and meeting their neighbours with over 160,000 new neighbourly connections formed. How cool is that?!
The core ethos of the festival is about reducing waste to landfill, finding treasure, de-cluttering, making some extra cash and meeting your neighbours. What started as a humble day in Bondi as a way of reducing illegal curb-side dumping has grown into this epic event. It’s completely not-for-profit and powered by local councils.
We spend $1.5 billion on clothes we never wear and 86% of Aussies buy stuff they never use. If just one pair of jeans was sold at each garage sale, 27.25 olympic swimming pools worth of water could be saved. And if 25 Lego sets were sold, enough energy would be saved to power the lightbulbs in an apartment for a whole year. Your stuff has an impact.
Find treasure or sell clutter to make a profit or raise money for charity while helping to save the world. It doesn’t get any better than this. Registrations are open now through the Garage Sale Trail website.
