From Where I Am Here is a photographic exhibition by David Symons that brings together a collection of works which explore landscape and belonging. These works are not only an examination of David’s personal connection to the land but questions how we accept a way of viewing a prescribed version of the world. He sees the imagery of landscape photography as a genre that, while on the surface seems to be free of ideology, is imbued with conventions that are linked to western traditions of representing landscape. Does this construction of landscape actually inhibit our sense of identity and belonging?
