French Art Friday – French Sculptures 1850s-1900s
Alliance Francaise has launched a series of 5 friendly talks on French art led by Florence Thiriot (teacher at Alliance Francaise and art specialist). These informal talks (presented in English) are 45 minutes long and will introduce French painting from mid XIX to early XX centuries, a period of immense creativity that saw the birth of Modern Art. Attendees are encouraged to mingle with each other and the teacher, over a glass of fine French red or white wine. Get the troops together for the final talk in the series, which will present French Sculptures from the 1850s – 1900s. A tour of French Art of the XIX century would not be complete without an introduction to the sculptors of the time. Sculpture was deeply transformed over the period by fabulous artists wanting to take their art through new pathways: from neoclassicism and romanticism, through impressionism and symbolism to end the century with Rodin’s first modern sculptures. People like Carpeaux, Bartholdi or Rodin focused almost exclusively on sculpture, and it also attracted Degas and Gaugin, all sculpting according to their individual creativity. Tickets will be available soon, stay updated via the Alliance Francaise Brisbane Facebook page.
