Tobol: The Conquest of Siberia screening

This May, The Russian Resurrection Film Festival presents a special screening of Russia’s newest period action flick, Tobol: The Conquest of Siberia, at select Event Cinemas in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Based on actual historical events, Tobol: The Conquest of Siberia takes place in Russia during the reign of Peter I at a time of the empire’s complex formation when bloody feuds and external enemy encroachments are commonplace. The film follows Ivan Demarin, a young officer of Tsar Peter’s new guard, who is sent on assignment to Siberia, to a border town of Tobolsk. Here, he meets his first love and but also faces mortal danger when hostile Dzungar hordes attack.

The screening is a part of a series of film screenings The Russian Resurrection Film Festival will present at Event Cinemas over the next four months. Each month will feature a new Russian blockbuster aimed at introducing audiences to films they’d not likely see anywhere else.

Russian Film Festival Director Nicholas Maksymow said “We’re thrilled to be able to screen Tobol: The Conquest of Siberia to audiences in Australia. With a production quality and action sequences that rival that of 2000’s epic Gladiator, we’re sure that this fast-paced film will have audiences captivated from beginning to end.”

The Russian Resurrection Film Festival is one of the largest, oldest and most respected film festivals outside of Russia. Running across November in capital cities all over Australia, the Festival aims to bring the freshest, most ground-breaking Russian cinema to Australian shores.

To book head to Event Cinemas.
