Ekka – Royal Queensland Show
The Royal Queensland Show, or Ekka as it’s most commonly known, is Queensland’s largest annual event. Held over ten full days, the Ekka showcases the quintessential Queensland life, bringing visitors from all across the state and Australia to the heart of Brisbane. The Ekka began in 1876 and is now Queensland’s most celebrated event. This year marks the 140th show and brings with it a variety of talent, culture, produce, fun and entertainment.
This year’s Ekka offers up more than 350 showbags in the Showbag Pavilion, a huge range of amusements and attractions down Sideshow Alley, a variety of daily entertainment and performances across the Brisbane Showgrounds. Returning in 2017 is the much-loved night time entertainment program, EkkaNITES, running every night of the show from 5:00–8:00 pm.
In addition to the favourites, the Ekka will be introducing some new features across its ten days of activity in 2017. New features include two fireworks shows, half-price entry after twilight, a brand new night show called EkkaNITES, a brand new pendulum ride aptly called The Beast, Australia’s first rotating gondola ferris wheel, a high dive show, performances from the Xpogo Stunt Team, bird flight shows, fashion parades, and much more.
Whether you’re going for the art, fashion, food, animals, performances, or amusements, you’ll get to experience Queensland’s best on show over two full weekends.
Getting to the Ekka will be easier than ever this year, with the new King Street Parking set to open right before EKKA. More than 380 new carparks will be available from only $30 a day during the show, so say goodbye to dragging the kids on the train and park right at the Ekka entrance.
