Earth Rising: JADE & MZAZA In Concert

Earth Rising is a special celebration of Brisbane’s evolving cultural and musical identity featuring two of Brisbane’s finest exponents of world music fusion.

On Saturday May 28, this transcendent concert experience will include performances by JADE New World Collective, MZAZA and feature guest artist Charulatha Mani.

About MZAZA
Two-time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA are committed to delivering Balkan-French inspired compositions to music lovers around the world. Led by enchanting French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy, this group of musicians from Bosnia, Latvia, Greece, Turkey, France and Australia has been mesmerising audiences with powerful and inspired performances. The impressive musicianship of MZAZA – deftly realised with accordion, violin, percussion, double bass and Flamenco guitar – embraces diversity, the old and the new, the familiar and the foreign, through timeless melodies. It is the timelessness of the music and stories that fuels an intense live show, an unforgettable musical journey, that has enraptured audiences at MONA FOMA, Queensland Music Festival, Cygnet, National and Woodford Folk Festivals, and visited airwaves internationally. Jaw-dropping technique, unique compositions and captivating shows have earned Mzaza supports for the likes of the Violent Femmes (USA) Yasmin Levy (Israel), Melbourne Ska Orchestra (AUS), Baba Zula and Baro Banda (Turkey), and DJ Click (France).

About JADE New World Collective
JADE New World Collective explores the length and breadth of Australia’s evolving cultural landscape through a repertoire or original music and rare arrangements fusing Asian and Western classical elements. Consisting of four core musicians, JADE features Indigenous didgeridoo musician David Williams, Japanese koto master Takako Haggarty Nishibori, Nepalese tabla virtuoso Dheeraj Shrestha, and Australian guitarist/composer Dr Anthony Garcia. The ensemble began in 2018 through an incubation and residency program facilitated by QPAC and Sounds Across Oceans and performed their debut concert Crystal Moonlight at the Cremorne Theatre, QPAC, as part of BrisAsia Festival in 2019. The group has performed and collaborated with an eclectic collective of international and local artists, presented lectures on intercultural music-making and cultural diplomacy and most recently recorded a series of new tracks for the City Symphonies project for Queensland Music Festival.
