Doomben Cup Day
The highlight is the wfa Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000 metres), first run in 1933 in the year Doomben racecourse opened. The Kiwi warhorse Rough Habit is the benchmark for this race having won three times in succession (1991-92-93).
For the three-year-old fillies the Doomben Roses (2000 metres) is the traditional lead-up race for the Queensland Oaks a fortnight later.
The Roses and Oaks double was taken out by the Kiwi filly Ethereal in 2001 and later that year she won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
