Digital Discovery Workshops for kids

Digital Discovery Workshops for kids

Discover the digital tools that design smarter communities in SORT’s Digital Discovery Workshops for kids commencing 13th January 2018.

Emerging technologies are rapidly shaping our future work and everyday environments. This workshop series gives kids access to a lab full of exciting new digital resources through fun and supportive scenario-based projects, designed collaboratively by SORT’s network of Brisbane teachers, designers, technology experts and academics.

Kids will peek through a window to the future in the ‘explore + discover workshop’ for ages 8 to 12, where they’ll interact with emerging digital tools that complement current STEM curriculum. From robots, sensors and 3D printers, to computer visions and coding, these workshops present complex technologies in a way that is both age appropriate and fun.

The ‘experiment + design workshop’ for ages 13 – 17 teaches young people how to leverage digital technologies and apply them to global and local challenges. This foundation building workshop series combines design thinking, systems thinking and problem solving, as students develop coding skills through text-based visuals.

Digital Discovery Workshop catalysts, Lucy Matthews and Meg Foley, collaboratively design each session based on design and teaching knowledge to create learning experiences that promote critical and creative thinking.

SORT is a not-for-profit community hub located close to public transport at 49 Vulture Street, West End, making it easy to check kids in for a morning or afternoon of digital discovery while you enjoy the local markets, cafes and shopping.
