Circle – Jeannie Baker

Circle is a fusion of art, literature and science.

Award-winning children’s author and artist Jeannie Baker’s latest picture book, Circle, will be exhibited as a remarkable travelling exhibition.

Annually, bar-tailed godwits (Limosa lapponica baueri) undertake the longest unbroken migration of any animal as they fly from their Alaskan breeding grounds to Australia and New Zealand. They follow invisible pathways in the sky, which they have followed for thousands of years.

Jeannie’s work conveys the sheer wonder of this giant migratory ‘circle of life’, but also reminds us to reflect on the importance of the world’s remaining wetlands. “Everything in nature is interdependent and connected and changes we make in one place can cause a chain reaction in other places, even at the opposite end of the world.”

Exquisitely detailed and textured collages along with the science of our natural world has created an exhibition which celebrates the godwit’s remarkable flight as it comes full circle.

Open Wednesday to Sunday only. No bookings required.
