Brisbane Writers Festival: Meet Helena Pastor
Helena Pastor is a Dutch-Australian writer who is passionate about the social justice possibilities of her work. Specifically, through memoir and fiction, she wants to influence the way people think and feel about topics including pregnancy and birth choices, troubled youth, recovering a lost Jewish identity and ‘singlism’.
Her writing has attracted numerous awards, most notably two Australian Society of Authors’ Mentorships, five residencies at Varuna Writers’ House (including a Varuna HarperCollins Award) and two residencies at Bundanon. Over a dozen of her essays and short stories have been published in Australian literary journals. Her memoir, My Beautiful Boy explores the challenge of disaffected youth from a mother’s perspective and offers an intimate insight into rarely chronicled aspects of youth work.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet Helena when she visits Mitchelton Library as part of the 2015 Brisbane Writers Festival program.
