Brisbane Open House

Brisbane Open House is back with an outstanding 2023 program. From Saturday July 15 to Sunday July 16, you will have access to the keys that unlock your city, so prepare to peel back the curtains and discover the hidden wealth of architecture, engineering and history in buildings, spaces, structures and places around Brisbane.

The free event will feature a curated selection of historic and contemporary buildings, with everything from heritage-listed homes to cutting-edge commercial spaces including some of Brisbane’s most iconic buildings, its most popular previous venues and some of our city’s newest projects and best-kept secrets. Some of the highlights from the 2022 event included City Hall, Customs House, and the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal and some exciting additions such as the Iconic Precinct within Fish Lane Arts Precinct, and the inaugural Villages of Brisbane weekend celebrating Sandgate and Shorncliffe.

Through the carefully curated 2023 event program, Brisbane Open House will be opening a full calendar of events including exclusive events, talks and activations, guided walking tours, and more, with the exciting new addition of the iconic Herston Health and Heritage precinct joining Sandgate and Shorncliffe for this year’s perusal. Herston Health & Heritage incorporates five separate entities within the broader Herston Health Precinct with many of the featured buildings constructed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries including the Lady Lamington Nurses’ Home and Towers constructed in three seperate periods between 1896 and 1938, and the Edith Cavill Building constructed in 1922 and The University of Queensland’s – Mayne Medical School, which opened in 1936. Together, these three buildings offer a rich tapestry of some of our state’s most significant heritage buildings. In addition to these heritage gems, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and Pathology Queensland will open their doors to the public to step inside and see working labs while meeting some of the researchers working on the most significant health and medical research projects in the state. Collectively the Herston Health & Heritage precinct will offer visitors a diverse mix of stunning heritage architecture, glimpses into medical research and the rich history of its evolution, while touring working labs that support whole of state medical needs.
