Brisbane Festival is back, baby! The much-beloved festival has just announced that it will set our city alight from September 3–25 with a phenomenal program. This year the festival’s theme is Boldly Brisbane – an unabashed celebration of everything great our home town has to offer.
This year’s program includes a bevy of premiere performances, thought-provoking theatre, magical music sets, awe-inspiring art and much more. Bone fide stand-out events include the world premiere of Boy Swallows Universe (the theatrical adaptation of Trent Dalton’s smash-hit novel of the same name), a sweat-soaked debut performance of Polytoxic’s cabaret spectacular Demolition, the unveiling of multi-hued interactive art installation Sky Castle, a celebration of the talent and musical legacy of Gurrumul Yunupiŋu, a blistering rock ‘n’ roll performance from local heavy hitters WAAX, Casus Circus and Mad Dance House’s contemporary circus and street dance showcase COLLISION, and Lost – Australian artist Amanda Parer’s botanical-laden installation celebrating natural splendour.
Although Brisbane Festival will look a lot different this year (no mass gatherings due to social-distancing regulations), if you happen to reside in a cul-de-sac, then you have the chance to enjoy a slice of the festival in your street! Various streets across Brisbane will play host to pop-up concerts, offering open-air vibes, great local tunes and uplifting community spirit.
Please note: In case Ms. Rona pays Brisbane a visit and events can’t go ahead, Brisbane Festival will do quick and easy refunds for everyone. So, grab your tickets and dive into the Festival – it’s going to be a blast!
