Bernhardt/Hamlet

Coming to the Bille Brown Theatre from May 28 to June 18, Queensland Theatre’s Bernhardt/Hamlet is a mesmerising real-life backstage story by renowned American playwright Theresa Rebeck. The Broadway hit has played at theatres across the globe, capturing the hearts of audiences with its audacious story about a 19th century woman issuing a challenge to the system that is still as relevant today. Queensland Theatre artistic director Lee Lewis takes the helm as director in this rendition of the story with a top-tier cast of Aussie actors headed up by stage and screen star Angie Milliken (Death of a SalesmanPassengers).

Audiences will be transported all the way back to Paris in 1899 for this scintillating show, where star of the stage Sarah Bernhardt (Milliken) has set her sights on playing the role of Hamlet. Breaking the mould in more ways than one, the diva needs to do something spectacular (and controversial) to save her debt-ridden theatre. The solution? To take on the sacred role of the Prince of Denmark, and what transpires next will tickle the funny bone to say the least.

To grab a ticket or to grab two tickets? That is the question. Whatever the answer may be, you can secure your seat at Bernhardt/Hamlet on the Queensland Theatre website.
