Behind the Scenes Tour: NAIDOC
Queensland Museum will be celebrating NAIDOC Week 2015 with a special one-day-only Behind the Scenes Tour of the museum’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collection stores on Saturday July 18. The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week is ‘We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate’, so the tour will offer visitors a chance to learn more about the value of the museum’s collections in maintaining cultural heritage. An expert will talk tour guests through a range of objects that showcase the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and highlight their connections to land and sea. Expect to see a skinbark canoe from the Mapoon region collected in the 1930s, a Torres Strait Island headdress (dhari) and an award-winning turtle shell painting from the 1980s. Numbers are limited and bookings are essential. Find more information online.
