AYO Return to the Stage

Celebrate with us as AYO returns to the stage this July. All tickets $25.

The Australian Youth Orchestra, the pinnacle of musical excellence for young people across the nation, returns to the stage in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane with Richard Strauss’ heroic masterpiece, An Alpine Symphony. Images of nature and rugged landscapes are beautifully depicted in this sonic portrait composed in 1915.

The Australian Youth Orchestra will also perform the spectacular overture of Hector Berlioz’s unfinished opera Les Francs-juges. This seventy-minute program will be presented without an interval. To celebrate our return to the stage, we are welcoming audiences back with $25 for all tickets.

40 years after his first collaboration with AYO at the 1982 Adelaide Festival, legendary British conductor, Sir Mark Elder CH CBE will lead this ensemble of the finest young musicians Australia has to offer. Currently the Music Director of the Hallé, Sir Mark boasts an unparalleled resume, having worked with most of the world’s leading orchestras, and working regularly in the most prominent international opera houses. After three years of missed opportunities AYO cannot wait to be back on stage in what promises to be an immensely rewarding and inspiring experience.

Join us July 12 as Australia’s best young musical talent traverses through the mountains with Strauss’ impressive symphony, under the baton of one of the greats.
