Avenue Q
Avenue Q, the Tony Award-winning puppet musical, will be returning to the Brisbane Arts Theatre stage. Following four consecutive sell-out seasons and a wildly popular regional tour in 2017, the show is back on stage until December.
For those who don’t know about this seemingly cute, family puppet musical, the first thing we’ll say is DON’T BRING YOUR KIDS! There’s racism, porn and homosexuality…. And it’s not even a reality tv show!
This is a more grown-up version of those loveable Sesame Street muppets who dance, sing, fight and (wait for it) have sex – on stage. Facing unemployment, relationship problems and addictions, these muppets will make sure you never look at Sesame Street quite the same way again.
The cast is a mixture of human characters and puppets manipulated by visible puppeteers/actors dressed in black. The experienced and multi-talented cast have good comedic timing, are skilled puppeteers and great singers with an unmistakable Broadway sound.
Artistic Director of Brisbane Arts Theatre and Director, John Boyce, smiles with fondness when asked why the company is producing another season of Avenue Q. “The puppets have become part of the place. When they’re not on stage, they’re hanging out in our costume department reminding us not to be too fancy. Avenue Q has become a signature show for us, and the puppets are just another wonderful part of our community.”
Avenue Q will run from November 10 through to December 22. Tickets are $38-$44 peer person with student, concession and group discounts available. Book online through Brisbane Arts Theatre.
