Around the Place

Brisbane born Artist Pamela Gough’s solo exhibition for 2018 Around the Place is coming to the Graydon Gallery.

Pamela’s contemporary landscapes are narratives embedded with stories, maps, symbols and homes, especially from her own backyard of Brisbane. Pamela is a Brisbane born artist, and she celebrates the joy of those places around her… her city with its forever blue sky, the silver and red triangles of roofs and those Queenslander houses, unique as they straddle the ridges supported by stilts and balance on the side of the hill going with the harmonious flow of the land rather than cutting slabs into the earth.

This exhibition features new paintings and sketches inspired by many places around where she lives and across Australia, The Scenic Rim and Glasshouse Mountains on either side of Brisbane and many places which have captured her heart and soul. She is drawn to the patterns in the landscape and a passion for old houses and preserving the unique character of old buildings. Her vibrant textured work scratch away at the surface of life to reveal the stories behind the homes and the spirit of the place.

Growing up in Queensland is far removed from her family’s Celtic origins and this is reflected in her work as well as acknowledging and being respectful of the original inhabitants of the land on which she lives the Aboriginal Turrbal people.
