Ancient Goddess Culture

Chris Sitka, an expert on the Ancient European Goddess Cultures, will host a historical investigation into Ancient Goddess Culture – the women centred and Mother Goddess revering, pre-historic cultures of Old Europe. The evening will showcase archaeological images, including goddess figurines and other artefacts, which tell the story of a long lived culture which truly revered women. The interpretation will explain evidence for a peaceful and egalitarian social structure and a spiritual culture including ceremonies, dances, ritual costumes, symbols and sacred objects – bringing this ancient tradition to life. The archaeological evidence throws light on how and when men took temporal and spiritual power away from women and established the patriarchal structure we now live under. One which is based in power, hierarchy, war, cruelty, income inequality, and repression; which replaced the long lived harmonious peaceful and co-operative society of the pre-patriarchal era. Chris also elaborates on how she shared this evidence from her own European indigenous traditions with Australian Aboriginal Women elders and how, together, they drew startling parallels between our two spiritual traditions.

Tickets include supper and a cash bar will be open for the evening. Womenspace events are designed for women, unless otherwise specified. Head to the Womenspace website for all the details.
