A City Submerged

To commemorate the 2010/2011 Brisbane floods, Museum of Brisbane is launching an online exhibition of illustrations called A City Submerged – 10 years on from the Brisbane floods.

Based on nine individual memories, this exhibition features poignant watercolour illustrations from Paper Hands artist, Holly Neilson which have been expertly animated by Sai Karlen.

Here, storm clouds have an imaginary boxing match over open water while residents watch on and the river flows down suburban streets to knock on the front door of a Queensland home.

Each beautifully considered illustration is a gentle reflection on a cross-section of memories about the inundation that swallowed parts of the city, but not its community spirit.

Head to the Museum of Brisbane website to see A City Submerged.
