2018 Taiwan Film Festival in Brisbane

2018 Taiwan Film Festival in Brisbane

Established in 2016, the Taiwan Film Festival in Brisbane as a non-profit and independent association aims to showcase Taiwan’s contemporary documentaries and drama films which are a most important medium for cross-regional cultural interaction and communication. Now in its 3rd year, Taiwan Film Festival will be held again at Schonell Theatre in the University of Queensland (St Lucia campus) in order to target not only a general audience in Brisbane, but also academics and students. There will be eight selected documentaries, animation and drama films introduced in the film festival throughout the two-day event. These films do not just showcase Taiwanese societies, but also global issues of social justice, poverty, migration, animal right, ethnic diversity and postcoloniality. Through telling these histories the film festival will provide a sharp yet sympathetic look at the region to Australian audience.
