Zine & Indie Comic Symposium at South Bank

Celebrate the stapled little bundles of joy that are zines and comics with three days of practicums, panels and parties at South Bank.

The upcoming Zine & Indie Comic Symposium (ZiCS) at South Bank shows the magic that can happen when local creatives rally together to support a good cause. Organised by a dedicated bunch of enthusiasts and successfully financed via crowd-funding platform Pozible, the packed three-day event proves the independent arts community is alive and well in Brisbane.

The symposium will kick off with a launch party this Friday August 30, featuring the Golden Stapler Awards, a scribble slam and a live performance from The Bedroom Philosopher. Saturday and Sunday will see the South Bank Cultural Centre’s The Edge jam-packed with mingling artists and writers as they take part in free workshops, sit in on forums and snap up some seriously cool independent publications. Local artist Lesa Hepburn will teach you how to make paper from recycled cotton rag, while zine veteran Vanessa Berry will offer ten-minute speed mentoring sessions. Find more information about the event on the ZiCS Facebook page.
