Young talent transforms Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Raven’ at Metro Arts
Many great writers find inspiration for their works within their own lives and the people that surround them, twisting and stretching the truth into poetic fiction. Though when Edgar Allen Poe wrote The Raven in January 1845, he had not yet lost his wife, but the death of a beautiful woman was a frequent theme among his prose.
Co-presented by Metro Arts and Laura Kwiatkowski, this young theatre collective tell Poe’s personal tale, weaving his esteemed works The Raven, The Black Cat, Lenore and others through his journey.
Be enraptured by the ghosts that haunted his dreams and the fears that riddled his writing as Poe shifts through splintered memories of his beloved wife, until an uninvited creature arrives and begins to unravel the truth from the fiction in his writing and his life.
This intimate theatre experience seats only 16 people per night, blurring the lines between audience and performer, as the audience sit with Poe (played by Robbie O’Brien) at his table.
One of five diverse new performance works playing at Metro Arts as part of The Independents, The Raven creates a unique perspective on the memory of a renowned American writer, while spotlighting Brisbane newest theatre talents.
The Raven is showing at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm on Wednesday – Saturday nights until March 31, 2012.
