Help raise some cheddar for charity at the YMCA Rat Race

Do you like cheese? Do you like obstacle courses? Do you like supporting a good cause? If you answered yes to all three (or even two) of these, then we’ve got a cheeky challenge that’s right up your alley. The YMCA Rat Race is pitting teams against its mouse trap-style obstacle course to help raise funds for YMCA’s projects.

On Saturday October 6, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Botanical Gardens and Story Bridge will be overrun with crazed competitors as the YMCA Rat Race takes place for 2016. The challenge is responsible  for helping raise funds for YMCA’s school breakfast program, which provides more than 500,000 breakfasts across 83 Queensland Schools. The YMCA Rat Race will require a bit of rodent-like guile and cunning to navigate its dozen obstacles spread out over eight kilometres, with teams of four also responsible for their own inflated cheese wedge to keep safe from pest patrols running interference.

Are you curious about the obstacles? Don’t worry – there aren’t any human sized mousetraps here. The YMCA Rat Race will feature some uniquely cheesy challenges including the Feisty Fondue (a pool of squelching, bubbling cheesy goo), The Big Cheese (a giant inflated cheese wedge to scurry through) and the Ratatouille Rebel tube bridge (warning: you might get wet). Participants are encouraged to stick around after the race for the Rat Race Festival taking place at Captain Burke Park. If you’ve got a group of mates that like a fun challenge, get them together and register your team for the race before Thursday October 6.
