WTF 2016 showcases the magic of contemporary performance
Running over nine consecutive days, WTF 2016 will open your mind to the world of contemporary art and theatre, and challenge the way you see the world.
From February 18–27, Brisbane Powerhouse will play host to WTF 2016, a festival of contemporary performance. Featuring a program of acts from around the globe (nine countries to be precise), the festival celebrates all manner of topics, from the political, to the very personal.
From February 18–20, be dazzled by the Australian premiere of Huang Yi and Kuka, which seamlessly combines the art of dance with the science of mechanical engineering. In this innovative show, internationally acclaimed choreographer and dancer Huang Yi brings to life his childhood dream of dancing with a robot. Also taking to the stage from February 18–20, is Penny Arcade in Longing Lasts Longer. Delivered with unapologetic sass, Penny’s verbal bullets at political correctness, gentrification, aging, and everything in between will have you enthralled from the moment she steps on stage. From February 26–27, be entertained by three of New Zealand’s best choreographers as they combine dance, theatre and film in the powerful performance of Mana Wahine. In addition to the theatre and dance performances, festival-goers are in for a treat with the introduction of Club WTF, which will serve up a series of free music shows from global artists. Check out the full WTF 2016 program online.
If you are keen to take in some local dining before or after the show, try some of the hot spots on James Street. We suggest Farrier, At Sixes and Sevens, Tinderbox Kitchen or Gerard’s Bar & Charcuterie for a great time.
