World Press Photo exhibition returns to Brisbane Powerhouse
The Brisbane Powerhouse will once again host the annual World Press Photo exhibition, allowing viewers to admire some of the best works from award-winning photojournalists around the world.
The 57th annual World Press Photo exhibition profiles the globe’s top press photographers and showcases their best work in categories ranging from news to nature to portraiture. This year’s competition saw 5,754 photographers from 132 countries submit 98,671 photographs – meaning you’ll be treated to the best of the best.
The prestigious title of World Press Photo of the Year 2014 was awarded to American photographer John Stanmeyer, for his work for VII Photo Agency. The winning image captures African migrants on the shore of Djibouti city at night, raising their phones in an attempt to catch a signal from neighbouring Somalia and make a connection with relatives abroad. The free World Press Photo 14 exhibition will be on display in the Turbine Studio and Foyers of Brisbane Powerhouse from Saturday May 31 to Sunday June 22.
