Women of the World set to inspire Brisbane

With a line-up of speakers from a variety of fields, the Women of the World Festival looks to improve gender equality by challenging stereotypes and inspiring action.

From June 19 and 21, QUT’s Gardens Point campus will host the host the Women of the World Festival, with a program full of inspirational talks and events led by some of the most accomplished women in Australia and abroad. The WoW Festival began in 2011 by Southbank Centre London’s artistic director Jude Kelly and has spread to 24 cities across the globe. Each festival brings together speakers from a range of fields to share ideas and words of wisdom in order to celebrate the achievements of women and discuss the issues that pose challenges for females in today’s society.

A range of panels and conversations will take place over the three days featuring an array of women from a variety of professions and walks of life. WoW founder Jude Kelly will be in attendance, as will notable women such as former Governor-General Quentin Bryce, television personalities Jane Turner and Jane Caro, paralympian Carlee Beattie, Queensland Greens senator Larissa Waters, Queensland Young Australian of the Year Yassmin Abdel-Magied plus dozens of similarly accomplished women. In addition to panels and conferences, attendees will be able to participate in workshops and speed mentoring sessions with some of the guest speakers.
